The Organic Origin of the Tools:

Since 2004 CAST Canada has held 49 Consumer Panel Discussion workshops around central Ontario .

Over 1800 front-line workers from a wide variety of helping professions attended the sessions. Over time

certain themes consistently emerged as valuable to the workers. These themes were presented at the

panels for further discussion where they were distilled down to 5 solid, relevant productive ideas. In 2008
CAST Canada held a series of small “BoilerRoom” style workshops where small groups ( 8-10 ) of
frontline workers worked hard to adapt the ideas into reality, to find safe, productive ways to help clients
thus developing this series of helpful practical tools. These tools will be presented in full form with
discussion around applying them in your unique work environment.

After some exploration of Harm Reduction philosophies applied to trauma work we will have a consumer

panel – hear from those who have been there about what worked and what didn’t. Enjoy brave, focussed

discussion with consumers and colleagues.
